European Athletics Championships: GPDS provides fire protection

The 2018 European Athletics Championships will be held in Berlin between August 7 and 12. On the streets of Berlin and at the Olympiastadion, a total of about 1,500 athletes compete in 47 disciplines. In addition to discus thrower Robert Harting, steeplechase runner Gesa Felicitas Krause will also compete at the Olympiastadion. Meanwhile, GPDS provides up to 12 firefighters daily, to protect against fire at this event.
Germany is the host for the third time
After 1986 in Stuttgart and 2002 in Munich, this year Germany is hosting the 24th European Outdoor Athletics Championships for the third time. At the Olympiastadion in Berlin, 48 athletics disciplines will be held in seven competition days, including running, high jump and discus throw. In addition to Berlin, ten other European cities originally applied to host the event. In the end, however, all the cities withdrew their applications, so that Berlin remained the only candidate city.
The other venue is in Glasgow, Scotland
In addition to Berlin, six European championships - swimming, gymnastics, rowing, golf, cycling and triathlon - are being held in Glasgow as part of the European Championship. They will be held between August 1 and 12. In addition to the events at the Berlin Olympiastadion, parts of the center of Berlin are also blocked. Marathon and brisk walking will be near the zoo.
GPDS as a fire brigade for the event
GPDS also safeguards this event at the Olympiastadion. After many concerts by Helena Fischer, the Rollings Stones and Ed Sheeran, firefighters at the stadium are very well trained and can quickly and safely intervene in emergencies with a firefighting tank. Since GPDS uses only trained firefighters, they always do everything with absolute professionalism and calmness. Hence, the organizers do not have to worry about fire protection.
